Growth Under Pressure - A New You P.2

...putting oneself in environment that facilitates growth...

Based on the assumption that we all know how to grow and improve ourselves towards our goal, one question still remains. Why do some people experience success when others don't?

Take this example. Two high school students both struggled in the same arts class. Both Tom and James' work were below average at best and finals are around the corner. It was make or brake!

The art teacher gave both of the art students an ultimatum. The students could either carry on trying to improve their skills in their current class, or be put in a more advanced class. The purpose of this was not explained to the students.

Tom decided to stay in the same class as he PERCEIVED that moving to the advanced art class would cause him to FEEL depressed about his below par work.

James on the other hand, decided to move the advanced class. He was surrounded by art students with skills far beyond his own capabilities. James LISTENED and LEARNED. He gradually was brought to the same level as his peers in his new advanced art class.

Tom went on to fail his final project but James passed and got an apprenticeship in Fine Art.

This simple analogy illustrates the POWER of putting oneself in environment that facilitates growth.

Growth Facilitation.

what does it enable us to do?

1. Be more aware.

Getting out of our comfort zone gives us a birds eye view of our problems and how to go about taking STEPS to combat them.

2. Have self - belief.

An internal understanding that we possess the skills, once NURTURED, to excel and rise to our desired level of competence.

3. Change.

Often the things we hope, wish and desire can be obtained by making the simplest of adjustments.  A challenging environment can be the mental stimulation to overcome adversity and thrive.
